The Blue Devils head to Arkansas, Tennessee and Virginia this weekend

DURHAM – Duke Athletics is back in action this weekend as team members will be split between three meetings scheduled for Feb. 11-12.

Sixteen women and 29 men travel to Lynchburg, Va. to represent the Blue Devils in the eighth Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational. Duke is part of a 24-team squad that also includes Campbell, Charleston Southern, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, ETSU, Elon, Furman, High Point, James Madison, Liberty, Navy, NC State, North Carolina, North Florida, Penn, Radford, UNCG, UNCW, USC Upstate, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and William & Mary.

Friday begins with the men’s 60m preliminaries at 1:30 p.m. Three women’s field events – high jump, shot put and triple jump – scheduled for a 10:30 a.m. start kick off a Saturday action packed.

Duke sends five student-athletes to junior Jenna Creanfreshmen Abby Geiser and Megan McGinnisas well as graduate students Lauren Hoffman and Erin Swamp in Fayetteville, Ark. The Blue Devils will compete in five events over the two-day meet, starting late Friday afternoon with the women’s long jump (3:15 p.m. EST).

Along with the Blue Devils, the Tyson Invitational features a packed field that includes Academy of Art, Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas, Barton County CC, Drake, Florida, Florida State, Iowa, Kansas State, LSU, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina State, Nebraska, Oklahoma City, Ole Miss, Princeton and Tennessee.

The meeting will be broadcast on SEC Network+.

Graduate students Nick Dahl and Michaela Reinhart will represent Duke at the Music City Challenge in Nashville on Friday night. Dahl takes part in the men’s Mile race at 5:25 p.m., while Reinhart will compete in the women’s 5000m at 7:20 p.m. Both events can be streamed live on SEC Network+.

The Duke pair will face athletes from Alabama, Arkansas State, Cincinnati, Eastern Kentucky, FIU, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Illinois , Kennesaw State, Kentucky, Lipscomb, LSU, Memphis, Meridian Community College, Miami. [Ohio]Michigan State, Mississippi State, Murray State, Ole Miss, Penn State, Samford, SMU, Southern Illinois, Southern Miss, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UMass Lowell, Vanderbilt, Villanova, and Western Illinois.

Last outing – VT Elite Meet/Camel City Invitational

  • The Blue Devils have recorded 22 top-five finishes as well as seven all-time Duke marks.
  • Women’s long jump, senior Isabelle Wakefield recorded a personal best of 6.08 m (19–11 ½ feet) which was good for second place and placed her 4th all-time.
  • She also placed second in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.26 seconds, but it was her preliminary time that secured her a spot in the program’s record books. Wakefield moved up to second all-time with a PR event of 8.20 seconds.
  • Junior Ezra Mellinger clocked 6.81 seconds in the 60m – a personal best – to improve on his third place finish in the program.
  • Classmate Sam Rivera finished second in the men’s 3,000 m and moved up to second all-time on the Duke list with a PR mark of 8:02.41.
  • First-year student Mike Herzog improved his triple jump mark in his third consecutive meeting and moved up to second all-time on the Duke list after clearing a personal best 15.58m (49-9 ¾ feet).
  • Dahl and Reinhart represented the Blue Devils at the Camel City Invitational and represented the last two all-time marks recorded over the weekend.
  • Dahl clocked 3:57.08c to set the school record in the men’s mile race, while Reinhart bettered her all-time No. 2 mark in the women’s 3000m with a finish of 9:06.97c .
