Tennessee coach struggling in March

Tennessee Vols basketball coach Rick Barnes suffered another loss to a lesser seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The No. 3 seed Vols lost 76-68 to the No. 11 seed Michigan in the second round of the SEC tournament on Saturday in Indianapolis. The loss pushes Barnes’ NCAA Tournament record to 25-26 as a head coach.

Barnes’ Vols teams have made four NCAA Tournament appearances. Tennessee has lost to double-digit seeds three times in those four appearances, and every NCAA Tournament loss for the Vols has come against a lesser seed in the Barnes era. Since Barnes’ 2007-08 Texas team qualified for the Elite Eight, Barnes’ teams have played the second weekend of the tournament once (Tennessee 2018-19) in 10 tries.
