“DJ is great fun to be around,” UT coach Rick Barnes said in a school statement. “He has an engaging personality and contagious positive energy. That energy really translates to the basketball court. He’s an exciting player in transition who enjoys getting out on the open court. DJ is also a high-level defender with great shoulders and a long wingspan. . I think Tennessee fans are going to love getting to know him and seeing him compete.”

UT has two open scholarships available for the 2022-23 roster. Five-star winger Julian Phillips and four-star Knox Catholic point guard BJ Edwards have already signed, and Indiana transfer point guard Tyreke Key will join the mix.

Tobe Awaka, a 6-8 power forward, is selected for the Class of 2023. But he could choose to reclassify in the Class of 2022.
