COLOMBIA — South Carolina football significantly improved its bowl game streak last week, earning a seventh win in a massive 63-38 upset over No. 5 Tennessee.
The Gamecocks (7-4, 4-4 SEC) stunned the Vols (9-2, 5-2) on senior night at Williams-Brice Stadium and wrap up the regular season on the road against longtime rival Clemson (10-1) Saturday (noon, ABC). The win over Tennessee moved South Carolina’s bowl projections from the lower tier to the upper middle tier, with the Gator Bowl and ReliaQuest Bowl leading the way.
The Gator Bowl, played in Jacksonville, Fla., on Dec. 30 had representatives handing out handouts during the Tennessee game. It is being screened for the Gamecocks by Action Network, ESPN’s Kyle Bonagura and Sports Illustrated. Action Network and ESPN both project Notre Dame (8-3) as the opponent, while Sports Illustrated pits the Gamecocks against Illinois (7-4).
