EAST GRAND FORKS — East Grand Forks Sacred Heart opened the playoffs on a high note Thursday, beating Kittson County Central 57-37 in Minnesota’s Division 8A Men’s Basketball Tournament.
The win sends the Eagles – the No. 1 seed in the West – to Saturday’s quarter-final round at Thief River Falls.
The Eagles will meet Goodridge-Grygla at noon.
Eagles career leading scorer Sam Gapp and Kobe Tomkinson each scored 13 points to lead Sacred Heart.
The Eagles remained in control throughout the game, leading 32-10 at halftime.
“It was a solid team win to kick off the sectional playoff tournament,” said Sacred Heart coach Destry Sterkel. “We had a lot of guys in the game and they worked hard tonight. Proud of the overall team effort tonight.”
Kaden Vig led KCC with 14 points while Braden Faken added 11
