MSUM Women Down Montana State-Billings, 69-60 for first win | The powerful 790 KFGO


ABERDEEN, SD (MSUM Athletics) – A double-double from the junior forward Peyton boom led the Minnesota State University Moorhead women’s basketball team to a 69-60 victory over Montana State University-Billings on Saturday in non-conference action at Wachs Arena in Aberdeen, SD. The match was part of the Dacotah Bank Classic.

MSUM is now 1-4 while MSUB has fallen to 5-4.

Boom finished with a high of 21 points and 13 rebounds in the MSUM victory. Before second year Shyanne Loiland had 11 points, which is a season high, while the sophomore guard Mariah mckeever added 11 points.

Junior guard Nathalie Steichen added eight assists, a season high.

MSUM managed a season record 45.6% (26 of 57) while keeping the Yellow Jackets at 34% (18 of 53).

The Dragons took a 39-33 halftime lead as Steichen drained a three in the dying seconds. MSUM led by no less than nine in the second quarter.

MSUM pushed the lead into double digits in the fourth quarter when Boom scored with 8:20 remaining to bring the score to 64-53. Moments later, Loiland hit a three to push MSUM 67-55. The Dragons would lead by no less than 14 in the final frame en route to their first victory.

The Dragons are now done with non-conference play and will travel to UMary for an NSIC game on Thursday night.
