HUMBOLDT, TN (WNBJ) – Our Made in Tennessee highlights a creamery in Gibson County.
This week Made in Tennessee highlights Bongards Creameries in Humboldt, Tennessee, where they ship 300,000 to 400,000 pounds of cheese every day.
“Bongards is very, very happy to be in Tennessee. We have a great workforce. We are strategically located for many of our customers and are looking to continue to grow,” said Daryl Larson, CEO of Bongards Creameries.
Bongards Creameries is a cheese factory that had humble beginnings.
“In 1908, a group of farmers got together in the small unincorporated town of Bongards, Minnesota, trying to find a better market for their milk. They were all dairy farmers and they chose to form a cooperative The company has remained a dairy-owned company since 1908,” Larson said.
Since its inception, the creamery has seen a lot of growth and they talk about their most popular product.
“Our American cheese slices are among the most popular. We make them in our factory in Humboldt, and we also make them in our factory in Bongards, Minnesota. This is our largest item. It is widely used in fast food restaurants. It’s used in other food service applications,” Larson said.
Bongards Human Resources Manager says they are always looking for ways to positively impact the community by giving back.
“We are looking for opportunities, maybe with food shelters or with churches. If they know who may have needs, they can donate products,” said Jeffrey Gaston, human resources manager at Bongards Creameries.
Bongards Creameries is located at 3001 Us Highway 45 Bypass West in Humboldt, TN.
