Indiana women’s basketball to open regular season with Vermont


BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Just like that, Indiana women’s basketball is back! The Hoosiers open regular season play against the Vermont Catamounts on Tuesday at 7 p.m. inside the Simon Skjodt Boardroom.

This will be the first time in program history that the two teams meet.

Vermont went 20-11 last season and 13-5 in the American East Conference. The Catamounts return custody of Indiana natives Emma Utterback and forward Delaney Richason as part of their main seniors.

Utterback, a native of Greenwood, Indiana, led his team in scoring with 13.5 points per game and a team-high 3.9 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game. His 44 interceptions also led the team last season.

Richason, a native of Zionsville, Indiana, averaged 9.8 points per game, 4.5 rebounds and scored 15 double digits last season.

Indiana is coming off a successful 86-43 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan on Friday at Hall. Forward Mackenzie Holmes led the team with 22 points while three other Hoosiers hit double the score.

Indiana shot 58.6 percent from the field and got 29 points from their bench players. Holmes, veteran guards Grace Berger and Chloe Moore-McNeil as well as Minnesota transfer guard Sara Scalia and freshman guard Yarden Garzon secured the starting spots.

Other Hoosiers, including transfer keeper Sydney Parrish, scored 22 minutes and six points while first-year forward Lilly Meister had a strong first outing scoring 12 points in 10 minutes of play.

All but one Hoosier came to the board with two or more points.
