Explore Minnesota Director Lauren Bennett McGinty recently shared details of the state’s current tourism strategy and travel industry outlook for 2022.
A full recovery to pre-pandemic levels isn’t expected until late 2023 or early 2024, according to McGinty, but “we’re stepping back and expecting higher travel volume in 2022.”
“Minnesota is a unique four-season destination, and we have a major opportunity to position the state among the top 10 travel destinations,” McGinty said recently at the annual statewide conference.
Explore Minnesota also unveiled its new “dream state summer marketing campaign.

It targets travelers from Missouri, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Montana, Wyoming and Utah, as well as traditional markets.
“After nearly two years of pandemic restraints, Explore Minnesota is ready to execute a new strategic direction to attract travelers,” McGinty added.
“We have a lot of events and a lot of great ideas in place to build a bigger, bolder, brighter future for Minnesota tourism.”
Since the pandemic began, Explore Minnesota has supported hundreds of Minnesota communities with more than $3 million in tourism crisis and recovery grants.
