Minnesota’s 2022 spring football campaign wrapped up last weekend, meaning rookies have been on campus for over a month now. A recent visitor to 2023, Prior Lake, Minn. offensive lineman Greg Johnson, received an offer on Friday and just announced he’s committed to the Gopher Football program. Johnson held eight early offers from programs like Iowa State, Wyoming, Air Force, Ball State, Montana, Northern Iowa and Illinois State. 247Sports ranked Johnson as the No. 3 player in Minnesota State with an “87” three-star rating.
Johnson was at Minnesota’s spring game last weekend, and here’s what he told GI after the visit.
“The visit was so good, because it was great to be with all the guys from Minnesota. I met OL coach Brian Callahan before the game in his office and it went really well. My mom and I also met Coach Fleck again, and that was her first time meeting them, so that was great. Talking with Coach Fleck was really good. It’s always great to talk to him. Obviously we talked about football, but I feel so comfortable with him. We can really talk about anything. I’m really happy that my mom finally met coach Fleck. She loves it. J really enjoyed bonding with all the guys in Minnesota. I spoke with Jerome Williams for a while, and the same with Reese Tripp.
Johnson’s physical development came quickly. Just two years ago, as a freshman, he weighed 5-8 and 225 pounds. Now, in the spring of his freshman year, he’s grown over nine inches and weighs 6-5 and 290 pounds. He may not have finished growing yet either.
Stay tuned for more on Johnson’s commitment.
